Potography Contest: Baltic Sea - Worthy of ProtectionThe Third International Photography Contest around the Gulf of Finland is beginning. The theme of this year's contest is "Baltic Sea - Worthy of Protection", and it is being organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Finland, the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia and the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg.The closing date for entries is 31 August 2007. The purpose of the contest is to find new photographs that reflect both positive and negative features of the interaction between people and nature. Another goal is to encourage residents of the Baltic Sea region to protect their natural surroundings and help them understand the importance of a clean environment.Both artistic and environmental aspects will be considered equally when judging the photographs. Any person from Finland, Estonia or Russia can enter a maximum of three photographs in the contest. There are three categories: - Professional On the basis of a preliminary evaluation, each country will select a maximum of 10 photographs from each category for participation in the final, which will be judged by an international jury. The top three photographs from each category will receive cash awards in autumn 2007. In addition, the jury will present special awards to the best Finnish, Estonian and Russian photographs.
